The Opening

The wizard tower's windows turn black one by one, and a bell rings from somewhere above the clouds. Archmage Elira Voss opens the tower door and says, "My tower is becoming two towers, and one of them has decided it wants your world." She offers the party a sealed brass key and one hour before the two realities permanently merge.

Set the Scene

Read aloud: "The tower rises from the hill like a black needle stitched with strips of moonlight. Its upper windows show a second tower standing upside down in a starless sky. As you approach, the brass key in Elira's hand begins to turn by itself, and something on the other side of the door knocks three times." Elira explains that the party must reach the Meridian Lens, but she warns them that the tower's internal layout is changing. Tomas Pell waits inside with a map that is accurate only for the original reality.

Archmage Elira Voss

Elira meets the party at the tower's front gate during a growing magical storm. She offers a sealed brass key, a partial map, and a promise of substantial payment. If questioned about the duplicate, she describes it as an accidental magical echo and avoids discussing the apprentices who vanished during her experiment.

Stakes

If the party fails, Vael Turog becomes a permanent intersection between realities. The resulting reflections will slowly replace people, landmarks, and memories across Bellwater Valley. If the party succeeds without understanding the Lens, the valley may be saved while the apprentices and the Glass Archmage are erased.

Ticking Clock·The tower bell will ring thirteen times over approximately five hours. The first four bells have already sounded. At the thirteenth bell, the original tower and its duplicate permanently merge.

Background Lore

The wizard tower of Vael Turog was built around a fallen star shard called the Meridian Lens. For generations, Archmage Elira Voss used the Lens to stabilize the tower's teleportation network and protect the nearby valley from planar storms. Three nights ago, the Lens began broadcasting a repeating pulse that has awakened dormant constructs, erased memories from villagers, and opened a door into a silent duplicate of the tower. The tower's lower archive contains the original calibration ritual, but someone inside the tower has altered it.

What the World Knows

Archmage Elira Voss hires the party to enter Vael Turog and stop a magical malfunction before the tower merges with a dangerous duplicate reality. The party must recover an old calibration ritual, cross the tower's altered chambers, and confront the entity controlling the Meridian Lens. Elira claims the entity is a hostile magical copy that wants to replace the real tower and spread into the surrounding valley.
