The Opening

Archmage Cindreth summons you to Dawnvale’s highest airship tower, where thunder rolls beneath the floor and a dying blue light pulses across the clouds. He tells you the seventh shard of the Nova’s Heart has been found inside a drifting Azimut workshop, but the engine around it is tearing the sky open. Captain Gimblefizz offers one approach, a stolen flight plan, a stormbank, and a narrow window before the whole islet falls into the breach.

Set the Scene

Rain taps against the tall windows of Dawnvale’s airship tower while the city’s bells sound beneath the floor. Beyond the glass, a blue-white islet drifts through the storm clouds, trailing threads of broken light. Archmage Cindreth waits beside a brass navigation table, one hand resting on a map that keeps changing shape. Gimblefizz Gearwhistle leans over the rail of a patched airship and grins as the engines cough awake. Cindreth explains that the seventh shard is inside the floating workshop ahead, then lowers his voice and adds that someone has tampered with the engine’s safeguards. As the airship rises, the storm closes around you and the workshop’s distant wards begin to turn.

Archmage Cindreth

Archmage Cindreth summons the party to Dawnvale’s airship tower shortly after their return. He presents a shifting leyline map, explains that the seventh shard has been located, and introduces Gimblefizz as the only pilot reckless enough to approach the workshop through the stormbank. Cindreth offers the party a choice of priorities: secure the shard quickly, preserve the workshop’s research, or rescue its personnel if the facility begins to fail.

  5. 05
An Obsidian Tribunal courier was seen near the last known position of the workshop, carrying a black metal case sealed with wax.
Stakes

If the party fails, the seventh shard may be lost inside a planar breach, the workshop may crash into settlements below, and the Tribunal’s beacon may activate. Success gives the heroes control of the seventh shard, preserves a possible Azimut alliance, and reveals that the Obsidian Tribunal is interfering with leyline technology on a larger scale.

Ticking Clock·From the moment the party reaches the workshop, the mana islet has approximately 90 minutes of in-world time before the engine reaches critical instability. Each major failure, loud battle, damaged control station, or abandoned rescue opportunity advances the collapse. The GM may track six stages: warning, fracture, separation, descent, breach exposure, and final collapse.

Background Lore

The seventh living shard of the Nova’s Heart lies within an Azimut Artificers’ League workshop anchored to a drifting mana islet above the cloudline. The workshop was built to study and stabilize the shard, but the engine has begun drawing power from the islet itself, stripping away its leyline coherence. As the mana islet drifts toward a widening planar breach, the workshop’s safeguards have become increasingly hostile, and rival agents have entered the facility to steal the shard before the heroes arrive.

What the World Knows

The Azimut Artificers’ League has lost contact with one of its floating workshops, which is anchored to a drifting mana islet above the Jorthiel borderlands. The workshop contains the seventh shard of the Nova’s Heart, and its unstable engine threatens to collapse the islet into a widening planar breach. Archmage Cindreth has arranged a secret approach with Captain Gimblefizz Gearwhistle, but the party must infiltrate the workshop, disable the engine, recover the shard, and escape before the facility falls from the sky.
