Key Personas

Arch-Prelate Valerius
Valerius is a study in quiet contradictions. He possesses a boundless, radical empathy for the poor and the suffering, yet he maintains an unwavering, almost bureaucratic devotion to the laws of the Church. He will weep for a single orphan but will not question the harsh tithes that may have created that orphan's situation. He is soft-spoken and infinitely patient, yet his silence can feel more judgmental than a shout. He believes entirely in the inherent goodness of his subordinates, often dismissing reports of their corruption as 'trials of faith' or 'misunderstandings' rather than admitting his peers are flawed.

Kaelen Valerius
Kaelen is a man of quiet intensity who displays immense patience with the weak but holds a cold, terrifying wrath for the corrupt. He is generous with his meager food but remains deeply miserly with his trust, never allowing anyone to stand behind him. He treats every common laborer like a fallen king and every nobleman like a ghost. He suffers from a crushing survivor's guilt that manifests as a need to personally witness every tragedy in the slums, believing that his presence is a form of penance.

Aethelgard Vane
Vane is a man of absolute, terrifying certainty. He is remarkably patient and gentle with those he considers 'innocently ignorant,' treating them with a paternal warmth that can vanish in an instant. However, he is a cold, clinical monster to anyone he deems a 'rational sinner.' He believes that true justice is a surgical procedure: one does not hate the cancer, but one must be ruthless in cutting it out. He views his own cruelty as a supreme form of mercy, a necessary hardening of the heart to save a soul from eternal stagnation. He is most dangerous when he is smiling, as it usually means he has found a flaw he intends to 'fix.'
