Maela Vorr
Species
Mountain Dwarf
Appearance
Maela Vorr is a compact mountain dwarf woman whose presence feels heavier than her body. Her iron-gray hair is braided into six tight cords, each sealed at the end with a different copper clasp. Narrow parchment strips hang from her sleeves, belt, and shoulders, whispering together whenever she moves. Some bear ordinary memories, such as a child's first word or the taste of pears. Others describe panic, betrayal, or the last face seen before death. Her black-glass mask covers her eyes, but its surface reflects memories instead of faces. Looking into it may show a stranger's wedding, a battlefield under snow, or the viewer standing alone in an empty room. Her hands are broad and scarred like a mason's, yet she handles each parchment with the delicacy of a jeweler. She walks with a stiff, measured tread, though when startled she moves with startling speed and grace. The contradiction is unsettling: her clothing suggests a grim executioner, but she smells faintly of clean wool, cinnamon, and fresh bread.
“Her voice is low, dry, and carefully paced, with the clipped consonants of Dwarvish. She rarely raises it.”

Distinguishing Features
A black-glass eye mask that reflects memories instead of faces.
A ledger chained to her breastplate, with pages made from thin sheets of hammered slate.
A missing tip on her left ear, cut away during an interrogation she refuses to describe.
Parchment strips bearing memories hang from her clothes and sometimes write new words by themselves.
Her shadow occasionally moves a heartbeat after she does.
Voice
“A low, dry contralto with a rasp like a quill dragged across rough paper. Her words land in clipped, measured units, and she gives names more emphasis than threats.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool robe reinforced with leather panels, a close-fitted steel breastplate, fingerless archival gloves, heavy walking boots, and a hood sewn with tiny copper eyelets. Hundreds of parchment strips are stitched into the garment rather than merely tied to it. A thick iron-bound ledger hangs from a chain fixed directly to her breastplate.
Body Language
Maela keeps her shoulders squared and her chin slightly lowered, as though listening to a voice beneath the floor. Her fingers constantly align the parchment strips on her clothing. When lying, she touches the iron chain across her breastplate. When emotionally affected, she goes completely still except for one trembling thumb.
