Appearance

Silas Thorne looks like a weather-beaten hawk that learned to walk upright. His face is narrow and sun-browned, with a flattened nose, wind-chapped cheeks, and a jagged scar running from his left temple into his eyebrow. He moves with a guarded hitch because a crossbow bolt shattered his right thigh at Ember Pass, yet his hands remain startlingly quick around reins, buckles, and weapons. His coat smells of mule sweat, woodsmoke, and bitter mountain herbs. One contradictory detail unsettles people: despite his harsh, battered appearance, Silas keeps his fingernails immaculately clean and polished with ash.

Height5 feet 10 inches
BuildLean, rangy, and sinewy, with a powerful left leg and a visibly weakened right one
EyesStorm gray, with a pale ring around the right iris
HairIron-gray with streaks of copper, cropped close at the sides and tied in a short tail
SkinWeathered bronze, mottled by sun, wind, old bruises, and a pale scar across the right knee

His voice is low, rasping, and carefully measured, with the clipped rhythm of someone used to being heard over wagon wheels. He rarely raises it.”

Distinguishing Features

Jagged scar from the left temple into the eyebrow

Right leg permanently damaged by a crossbow bolt

Three black hawk feathers pinned to his hat

A brass whistle with a bite mark across its mouthpiece

A pale ring around the right iris caused by an old eye injury

Voice

A dry baritone with a wind-burned rasp, as if every sentence has passed through smoke

Clothing

A patched charcoal greatcoat reinforced with leather strips, a faded red scarf wrapped twice around his throat, mud-stained riding trousers, iron-toed boots, and a broad felt hat pinned with three black hawk feathers. His right trouser leg is cut open and bound with fresh linen.

Body Language

Silas leans heavily on his staff but turns his head sharply and independently, like a bird tracking movement in tall grass. His injured leg trembles when he is angry, not when he is afraid. He touches two fingers to his eyebrow whenever he remembers the cliff signals.
