Thalassik Brinebelly
Bard
Thalassik Brinebelly
Species
Kuo-Toa
Appearance
Thalassik is a squat, pear-shaped kuo-toa whose body seems to have been poured rather than grown, with folds of damp flesh sagging beneath his jaw and a belly that wobbles a full second after he stops moving. His face resembles a deep-sea blobfish dragged into the Underdark: a broad, slack mouth, soft hanging cheeks, tiny nostrils, and enormous glassy eyes that bulge in different directions when he is excited. His movements are usually slow, gelatinous, and theatrical, but when startled he can launch himself sideways with startling speed, skidding across stone like a dropped sack of wet flour. The unexpected contradiction is that his ugly, half-melted appearance is paired with immaculate grooming. Every scale is oiled, every fin is combed, and his little vest is kept free of even a single speck of lake silt.
“A bubbling baritone with theatrical pauses, sudden squeaks, and the faint sound of water sloshing in his throat. He speaks quickly when selling something, slowly when threatening someone, and whispers to his deck as if it were a nervous animal.”

Distinguishing Features
A mouth broad enough to swallow a plum, with one gold tooth shaped like a tiny anchor.
One eye is amber and constantly tears brackish water; the other is milky blue and reflects distant stars that are not present.
His skin shines with a rainbow oil sheen even when dry.
A pale scar circles his throat where a ceremonial priest-collar once constricted him.
His shadow sometimes appears to be swimming when he stands still.
Voice
“A bubbling, theatrical baritone that can turn into a wet whisper or a piercing fishlike shriek.”
Clothing
A pearl-buttoned violet waistcoat over a stained cream shirt, a belt of tiny waterproof pouches, red silk trousers tucked into lacquered fish-leather boots, and a crooked hat decorated with bottle caps, drowned coins, and a single glowing fungus.
Body Language
Thalassik rocks from side to side like a buoy, punctuates bargains by slapping his belly, and constantly adjusts his vest. His eyes rarely focus on the same person at once, except when he is furious. When frightened, he freezes completely and lets one fin tremble.
