Veska Dravina
Entomancer
Veska Dravina
Species
Void Swarm in Human Disguise
Appearance
Veska looks like a young woman who has spent most of her life working indoors, with pale skin, mauve hair cut bluntly at the jaw, and bright red eyes that seem almost wet with reflected candlelight. Her movements are careful and economical, but never quite human. She turns her head before her shoulders, pauses with one hand raised as though listening to vibrations in the walls, and sometimes stands perfectly still while tiny ripples travel from her throat to her wrists beneath the skin. Her face is plain but memorable, softened by a tired smile and a small scar through the left eyebrow. The contradictory impression is that she looks delicate and underfed, yet carries herself with the grounded balance of someone who could lift a full laundry basin with one arm. When startled, her pupils briefly divide into dozens of pinpricks before becoming human again.
“Veska speaks in a low, pleasant contralto with a slight river-quarter accent. Her sentences are plain and workmanlike, full of domestic metaphors and practical observations.”

Distinguishing Features
A fine pale scar cuts through her left eyebrow, though the scar occasionally opens into a seam of moving insects.
Her red irises contain tiny black specks that shift independently when she is angry.
The skin at her wrists sometimes pulses in the rhythm of wings.
She smells faintly of lavender soap, hot dust, and rain trapped beneath floorboards.
Her shadow can briefly show antennae or many-legged outlines when she is frightened.
Voice
“Warm, low, and reassuring, with a dry humor that becomes strangely layered when the swarm is agitated.”
Clothing
A charcoal-gray maid uniform reinforced with layered leather, silk, hidden plates, and overlapping lacquered chitin beneath the fabric. The high collar is fastened with a dull brass pin shaped like a closed eye. Her apron contains pockets for thread, keys, powdered salt, insect husks, and several tiny glass vials. Her boots have ridged soles for climbing and conceal slim hooked blades.
Body Language
Veska stands with her hands folded at her waist like a practiced servant, but her fingers occasionally tap in complex rhythms against her knuckles. She leans toward walls and doorframes as though hearing through them. Under stress, she becomes unnaturally still, with only the faint crawling motion beneath her skin revealing that she is thinking.
