Mwezi Nombela
Species
Gnome
Appearance
Mwezi is a palm-sized gnome with a soft, rounded face and a body built like a knot of roots. Their movements are quick but oddly careful, as if every step is an apology to the broken world. Their skin has a warm umber tone dusted with pale gray from years spent crawling through ash-choked ruins. Their hair rises in two uneven clouds, stiff with grease, wire fragments, and tiny blue bottle caps. They wear rags that flap around them like oversized flags, yet they keep one immaculate white glove tucked into their belt. Their smile is gentle enough to invite trust, while their eyes measure exits, pockets, and weaknesses.
“Soft, rounded, and unhurried, with gentle consonants and occasional rhythmic phrasing. Mwezi sounds reassuring even while describing how someone might die.”

Distinguishing Features
A crescent-shaped scar cuts through the left eyebrow.
Their left ear is replaced by a copper funnel that amplifies whispers but squeals near active machinery.
Their fingertips are permanently stained blue from old water-purification chemicals.
One white glove is kept spotless despite the surrounding grime.
Their shadow appears to lag half a heartbeat behind them when they are frightened.
Voice
“A low, warm murmur with a faint musical cadence, like someone telling a bedtime story beside a failing generator”
Clothing
Layered burlap, torn banner cloth, and strips of faded medical gauze tied into a sleeveless coat. Their knees and elbows are wrapped in rubber scavenged from old hoses. A single pristine white glove hangs from their belt, never worn.
Body Language
Keeps their shoulders tucked forward and their chin lowered, giving the impression of meekness. Their fingers constantly sort scraps by size. When lying, they become perfectly still, which is more revealing than fidgeting.
