Appearance
Master Kestrel Stone is a weathered human with the compact, balanced posture of someone who has slept beneath wagons and fought on moving ground. His skin is sun-browned and roughened like old saddle leather, with pale scars crossing his knuckles and a thin white line running from his left temple to the corner of his mouth. He moves quietly for a man who spends his days handling crates, always turning sideways through doorways as if expecting an ambush. His hands are broad, deft, and permanently darkened beneath the nails by pitch and horse oil. The unexpected softness of his appearance is a tiny silver bell braided into his beard, which chimes whenever he becomes angry.
“Measured and low, with clipped frontier phrasing. Kestrel speaks as though every word should fit inside a supply pack.”

Distinguishing Features
A silver bell braided into his beard that gives a faint chime when he moves.
A crescent-shaped burn scar on his right palm from a failed signal flare.
One front tooth is made of polished antler, a gift from a rescued ranger hound's handler.
His left boot contains a hidden compartment for emergency flint, dried meat, and a single folded letter.
Bristle responds to a two-note whistle that Kestrel never uses in public.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a faint rasp, like gravel shaken inside a tin cup. He becomes almost whisper-quiet when discussing danger and unexpectedly singsong when addressing animals.”
Clothing
A dark green wool coat reinforced with overlapping leather panels, a russet waistcoat full of hidden pockets, mud-stained trousers, soft-soled riding boots, and a gray scarf embroidered with tiny trail symbols. He wears no visible jewelry except the silver bell in his beard.
Body Language
Kestrel leans on counters without seeming relaxed, keeping one shoulder angled toward the nearest exit. When calm, he polishes buckles with slow circular motions. When worried, he touches the silver bell in his beard. When furious, he becomes perfectly still, and the bell stops moving before it stops ringing.
