Appearance
Brannik Vezdrik is a broad-shouldered human man with the weathered face of someone who has spent half his life underground. His skin is copper-brown and crosshatched with tiny pale scars from salt burns. His black hair is clipped close on the sides but hangs in a stiff, uneven ridge over his brow, as though cut with a knife during an argument. One eye is dark hazel, while the other is clouded silver from an old cave-in, yet he turns that damaged eye toward people when they speak, making them feel more closely watched than if he were staring directly at them. He moves with a miner's careful economy, testing floors with his heel before committing his weight, but when startled he becomes startlingly graceful, folding and twisting like a dancer avoiding falling furniture. He smells faintly of lamp oil, wet stone, and sugared plums, an unexpectedly sweet trace that clings to him even after hard travel.
“Low, clipped, and practical. He speaks as though every sentence must fit inside a mine shaft, but his voice softens around children and the bereaved.”

Distinguishing Features
A clouded silver left eye that still tracks movement.
Three parallel salt-burn scars along his throat.
A cracked brass compass tied to his belt with red thread.
A child's mitten worn as a belt charm.
A sweet plum scent that never quite leaves his clothing.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone with a faint rasp, like stone dragged over stone. His laughter arrives suddenly and ends quickly, while his anger makes his voice quieter rather than louder.”
Clothing
A patched charcoal coat reinforced with leather shoulder plates, a rust-red wool sash, thick miner's trousers, knee-high boots crusted with old salt, and a hooded lantern hanging from a chain at his hip. He wears one child's mitten tucked into his belt despite having no child with him.
Body Language
He keeps his shoulders angled toward the nearest exit, taps two fingers against his left wrist when deciding whether to trust someone, and leans very close when listening. When angry, he becomes perfectly still except for the slow tightening of his jaw.
