The Opening

Set the Scene

Veyra Quill meets the characters beside a half-buried wreck in a canyon of red stone. She presents a charcoal map of Red Wrench Bastion, marks three possible approaches, and explains that the compound's defenses operate on an escalating Alert system. The characters have enough time for one preparation before the infiltration, such as stealing uniforms, scouting the perimeter, bribing a scavenger, or creating a diversion.

Stakes

If the party fails, the Brass Vulture becomes a weapon in an infernal raid and Veyra loses her standing among Avernian scavengers. If they succeed, they gain a powerful mobile asset, but the vehicle's bound soul and hidden payload may draw the attention of devils, demons, warlords, and anyone who understands what the engine can do.

Ticking Clock·At dawn, approximately six hours after the mission begins, Prefect Draxis will remove the Brass Vulture's engine core and install it in a soul-fuel bomb. Each major delay may advance the deadline, increase patrol density, or raise the starting Alert level by 1.

Background Lore

The infernal war machine Brass Vulture was built from salvaged battlefield engines and plated in black iron. Its previous owner, a freelance hellrider named Veyra Quill, used it to raid supply convoys along the Avernian wastelands. Three nights ago, a rival devil faction ambushed Veyra, stole the machine, and hauled it into Red Wrench Bastion, a fortified enemy compound built around a dead war engine. The Brass Vulture is now being refitted for a punitive raid, and its engine core will be removed at dawn unless the characters act quickly.
