The Opening

Tristram is silent again, but the silence is broken by refugees fleeing east with stories of demons pouring from the roads behind a black-cloaked wanderer. In the Rogue Encampment, you learn that Deckard Cain is imprisoned in the ruins of Tristram and that every survivor who speaks of the wanderer soon disappears. If the stories are true, the evil that destroyed Tristram is moving east, and it is gathering strength.

Set the Scene

The adventure begins in the Rogue Encampment beneath a sky the color of old bruises. Campfires burn low, refugees whisper of a dark wanderer, and a bloodied Rogue scout has just arrived from Tristram with news that Deckard Cain is still alive inside the ruined town. The scout begs the party to go before the demons return in force.

Stakes

If the party fails, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal reunite and establish a permanent bridge between Sanctuary and Hell. If they succeed, the Prime Evils are defeated and two soulstones are destroyed, but Baal survives with his own stone, leaving Sanctuary wounded rather than safe.

Ticking Clock·Every major delay allows Diablo to move closer to Baal and Mephisto. After each act, increase the scale of the demonic outbreaks, reduce the number of surviving allies, and show the Dark Wanderer's human identity fading further.

Background Lore

Sanctuary has survived the fall of Tristram, but the victory was poisoned. A nameless warrior defeated Diablo beneath the cathedral and drove the Lord of Terror's soulstone into his own brow, believing his body could serve as a prison. Instead, Diablo's essence has begun to consume him. Wherever the Dark Wanderer travels, demonic incursions follow, while rumors speak of a greater design involving the imprisoned Prime Evils Baal and Mephisto.

What the World Knows

A nameless warrior defeated Diablo beneath Tristram, but the victory left him changed. Since then, a Dark Wanderer has crossed Sanctuary, leaving demonic outbreaks, ruined settlements, and terrified survivors in his wake. The adventurers must rescue Deckard Cain, follow the Wanderer through the Rogue Monastery, the eastern desert, and the temple city of Kurast, then descend into Hell before the corruption becomes irreversible.
