The Opening

A ruined caravan hunter staggers into the sand at dusk, coughing brine and whispering that fish men are dragging villagers into depths beneath the oasis. The Sultaness will reward anyone who reaches the source before the Mirage Oasis is swallowed by unholy tides. Zahir Sandheart begs for help and offers to guide the party through the shifting dunes.

Set the Scene

At dusk, the party finds a caravan hunter collapsed on the edge of the dunes, lips salted white and sandals full of black water. He gasps that figures with fins and hooked spears dragged people beneath the sand where no water should exist, and then points toward the Mirage Oasis before losing consciousness. Zahir Sandheart arrives with a skin of fresh water and an offer: help him stop the tide, and he will lead the way.

Stakes

If the party fails, the Mirage Oasis loses its wells, caravan trade collapses, and the desert gains a permanent breach to abyssal waters. If they succeed, the oasis survives and the wider region gains a hard-won barrier against the same threat.

Ticking Clock·Each sunset raises the brackish water a little higher. After three nights, the cult's ritual reaches completion and the oasis lake becomes a breach strong enough to drown the lower wards.

Background Lore

The Mirage Oasis has always survived by bargaining with the land, the caravans, and the hidden currents beneath the sand. Now brackish water seeps up through old stone and impossible tide pools bloom between dunes, as if a sea has been folded underneath the desert. The Sigil of Tide, a relic once used to steady the oasis against planar pressure, was taken into the flooded ruins below the lake at its heart. As the waters deepen, merrow and sahuagin raid the caravans while a kraken cultist works to widen the breach and turn the oasis into a gate for abyssal tides.

What the World Knows

The Mirage Oasis is being raided by merrow and sahuagin emerging from hidden waters beneath the desert. The party must cross dangerous dunes, investigate flooded ruins, and recover the Sigil of Tide before the oasis is lost. Zahir Sandheart guides the heroes toward the Sunken Altar, where a kraken cultist and her servants are strengthening the attacks.
