Breton is a storm-battered coastal duchy of old stone keeps, salt roads, and lantern-lit hamlets clustered around an ancient cliffside shrine known as the Black Bell. For generations, locals have left offerings there to keep the sea calm and the harbor safe, but in recent weeks the bells have sounded by themselves at midnight and fishing boats have returned with empty nets and bruised hulls. Old family feuds, church authority, and a quietly growing fear of the deep have made the people of Breton easy to manipulate and hard to reassure.
