Set the Scene

The last light of day slants across the road as you top the ridge and see a merchant wagon shattered across the lane, one wheel splintered and the axle broken. Four hooded figures clutch scimitars behind the wreck, chanting as if the road itself belongs to them. Captain Tarsin raises a shaking blade and says the same thing every frightened caravan master hopes never to say: the cultists are here, and they mean to make an example.

Stakes

If the party fails, the cult will use the road terror to frighten merchants, weaken guard confidence, and prepare a larger strike at the river crossing. If they succeed, they expose the first thread of a broader plot and turn Silverford Crossing into a future ally instead of a vulnerable bottleneck.

Silverford Crossing is the next safe holdfast on the route, but if the road is being seeded with fear, the ford may already be under quiet watch.
