Bones Beneath Wolf Tide
Bones Beneath Wolf Tide
“Descend into the broken tunnels of Wolf Tide, recover a guard's remains, and uncover the secret that made the earth betray the dead.”
— Hook · retrieve
“A grieving family asks you to descend beneath Wolf Tide and recover the remains of Garyan's father from the tunnels that collapsed years ago. If you can also learn why the passage gave way and whether the remaining depths are safe, the city guard and Prince Emrik will owe you a debt.”
— Hook · retrieve
Garyan meets the party near a family shrine overlooking the harbor, carrying a folded guard sash that belonged to her father. She explains that the city never brought him home, that the tunnels still haunt her family, and that she will pay for a proper recovery if someone will go below and return what remains.
Garyan Vale
The request comes through grief first, then civic duty. Garyan wants the party to treat the dead respectfully, while Captain Ilyra quietly adds that any information about the collapse could help the city guard and Prince Emrik avoid another disaster.
Rumours
d5 · table- 01The lower tunnels sing when the tide is high.
- 02One of the guards trapped below was heard calling for help long after the collapse.
- 03The old quarry supports were never inspected after the city's expansion.
- 04Smugglers once used a side passage under the burial chambers.
- 05The dead sometimes stand in the dark if names are spoken aloud.
The dead deserve burial, the living deserve the truth, and Wolf Tide may be one bad decision away from another underground disaster.
Background Lore
Beneath Wolf Tide lies an old utility maze of quarry passages, cistern cuts, and forgotten smugglers' corridors that the city guard once used to search for contraband and structural hazards. A few years ago, part of that system collapsed during a guard sweep, burying many personnel and sealing off entire sections. The dead were never fully recovered, the cause of the collapse remained uncertain, and rumors grew that the dark below is now claimed by things that do not forgive the living.
A family in Wolf Tide hires the party to enter a long-collapsed tunnel network and recover the remains of a guard who died there years ago so he can be buried with his ancestors. The job may also reveal whether any parts of the buried tunnels can still be used safely.
