The Opening

“The dead of the Skate Plains are vanishing, and every missing spirit makes the shadows deeper. Murfala the Grasping Shadow is gathering 100,000 Souls to become a god, and if it rises, the Plains will never know rest again. Track it, reach its hollow shrine, and kill it before the last tally is taken.”

Set the Scene

High Cantor Elsen Vale spreads a handful of ash over a map of the Skate Plains and the grains twitch toward a marked crater. 'Three caravans have vanished, twenty-seven names have gone silent, and the shadows in the south are starting to answer back,' they say. 'Go now, find Murfala in the Glass Flats, and kill it before it finishes eating the dead.'

Stakes

If Murfala is not stopped, the Skate Plains will become a permanent harvesting ground where the dead cannot pass on and the living cannot travel safely.

Ticking Clock·Each long rest, major delay, or lost trail gives Murfala time to absorb more souls and strengthen its ritual. If the party lingers too long, the final confrontation becomes more dangerous and may occur after the ascension has already begun.

Background Lore

The Skate Plains are a wide wind-scoured badland of black glass, frozen silt, and bone-white drift ridges left behind by an ancient celestial impact. In the centuries since, the dead here have never rested easily, and old superstitions say that every name spoken in the Plains can be heard by the dark beneath the crust. Murfala the Grasping Shadow has learned to feed on those lost names, and its hunger is now great enough to threaten the region.

What the World Knows

A predatory shadow called Murfala is hunting the Skate Plains and feeding on the dead. The party must track it to its lair and destroy it before its hunger becomes unstoppable.
