The Opening

The air in Fluvenilstra is heavy with the scent of damp earth and old secrets. Flowrider, his skin shimmering like a slick river stone, gestures toward the darkening roots of the World Tree. He tells you that he cannot guide you until you purge the crystal rot from the Pulse Stone of the ancients.

Set the Scene

The party stands at the edge of the Shimmering Grove within the hidden city of Fluvenilstra, where the bioluminescent fungus provides the only light against the suffocating weight of the desert above.

Flowrider

Flowrider is solemn and weary, viewing the PCs with a mixture of hope and intense suspicion because of their 'city smell'.

Rumours

d3 · table
  1. 01
Flowrider is more afraid of the miners than he is of the desert above.
  2. 02
The Slyth did not just leave their posts; they were driven out by a sickness of the soul.
  3. 03
A section of the old temple now hums with a frequency that turns skin into glass.
Stakes

If the PCs fail, Flowrider will cast them out into the desert without his help, and the Hollow Veil will slowly begin to consume the subterranean city's foundation.

Ticking Clock·The crystalline rot is spreading through the cavern; for every hour the party spends resting, the Pulse Stone's hit points decrease by 10.

Background Lore

1000 years ago, when the first miners discovered Aetherite, they massacred the Slyth protectors of the Seal to get to the vein. The survivors retreated deeper into the earth, realizing their presence at the Seal only served as a map for the surface world. They allowed the memory of the prison to fade into myth to protect it, but now the mining from Veythar above is cracking the prison walls, allowing the Hollow Veil to seep out as crystalline rot.

What the World Knows

Flowrider needs a sacred Slyth artifact called the Pulse Stone to heal the dying roots of Fluvenilstra. It is located in a high-risk mutation zone that Slyth can no longer safely enter.
