The Opening

Under a scarlet moon, demonic claws tear through the gates of Night’s Gate and the sky above the Celestial Drakespire burns like an open wound. The fortress needs heroes who can reach the ancient forge, seal the rift, and hold the line long enough for dragonborn and mortals to stand together. If the walls fall before the oath is sworn, the Drakespire falls with them.

Set the Scene

The blood moon climbs above the floating Drakespire as alarms ring through Night’s Gate and burning debris rains into the courtyards. From the highest wall, the heroes can see a jagged tear in the sky above the fortress heart, and through it come wings, shrieks, and the smell of brimstone. Kaerith Stormscale points toward the inner keep and says that if the forge is lost, the fortress is lost with it.

Rumours

d4 · table
  1. 01
The forge has not been silent for centuries. It only answers to blood oaths now.
  2. 02
One of Kaerith’s officers has been secretly reading abyssal sigils in the wall inscriptions.
  3. 03
A mortal smuggler claims the Sigil of Flame was recovered from a battlefield that should have been impossible to reach.
  4. 04
The blood moon is said to reveal the names of traitors if you stand beneath the eastern spire at midnight.
Stakes

If the party fails, the rift widens into the fortress core and Night’s Gate becomes an Abyssal foothold above the Drakespire. If they succeed, they preserve the fortress, win a powerful ally, and prevent a demon incursion that could have reshaped the entire region.

Ticking Clock·The rift widens every hour and the second demon wave arrives at the forge before the sealing sequence can complete.

Background Lore

Night’s Gate is a fortress-city built into the floating Celestial Drakespire, where dragonborn vows are sworn beside a leyline forge older than the current dynasty. Under a blood-red moon, a planar wound opens over the fortress heart and the walls begin to fail as demons spill into the inner courts. The only way to seal the breach is to place the Sigil of Flame into the forge brazier, but the artifact can only be activated through a dragonborn oath-rite overseen by High Inquisitor Kaerith Stormscale.

What the World Knows

A blood moon tears open a demon breach above Night’s Gate, and the party must race through a fortress under siege to activate an ancient leyline forge. They must survive repeated attacks, stabilize the forge, and persuade High Inquisitor Kaerith Stormscale to commit her dragonborn paladins to the defense. Success saves the Drakespire and turns a desperate stand into a new alliance.
