Species

River elf

Appearance

Vamuz Sóbela is a broad-shouldered river elf whose movements are quiet, economical, and strangely tidal, as if every step is part of a current only he can feel. His bronze-brown skin has a faint pearlescent sheen at the knuckles and throat. His black hair is braided with blue thread, tiny brass fishhooks, and three bits of white ceramic from a shattered shrine. His left sleeve is always damp, even in dry weather, while the rest of him is meticulously clean. He wears a peaceful expression that becomes unsettling when he is angry, because his smile grows warmer rather than colder. He leaves people with the impression of having been carefully measured, then gently forgiven.

Distinguishing Features

Three pale scars cross his left palm like the lines of a river delta.

A small brass bell is sewn inside his coat and rings only near undead or recently drowned creatures.

His left sleeve remains damp and occasionally drips onto dry ground.

One canine tooth is made of smooth river pearl.

He has a habit of looking toward empty doorways when someone mentions the dead.

Voice

Gentle, resonant, and lightly accented, with rounded vowels and a faint musical cadence that makes even warnings sound like blessings.

Clothing

A deep green wool coat patched with sailcloth, a sleeveless brown vest, loose river trousers, waterproof boots, copper bracelets etched with flood heights, and a gray scarf that smells faintly of mint and wet stone.

Body Language

He keeps his hands visible and his shoulders relaxed, but his fingers repeatedly trace the shape of an invisible door latch. When lying, he becomes perfectly still. When preparing for violence, he removes his gloves and folds them with ceremonial care.
